How misplaced activities and bad cloud practices are costing billions
People frequently look at the moving elements while looking for inefficient practises in their organisation. asking “why does this machine operate in this manner?” in addition to “why is this person moving this box from here to there?” and “why are these meetings taking so long?” It would appear that waste occurs when individuals or tools perform tasks incorrectly or less effectively. And it may be accurate. But inaction can also result in significant waste, particularly in the cloud.
Many businesses enter the cloud without fully understanding what they are truly doing. The leadership of a company can be satisfied that it has enough resources in its hybrid cloud setup to permit secure data storage as well as resilience for scaling up and scaling down in accordance with immediate market demands, even in the absence of a centralized strategy and with excessive faith placed in their vendor’s promises.

The devil is in the details
But the devil can be in the details, and those intricacies can result in high expenditures that just show on the bill and are paid by someone who has no idea that things should be different. This is similar to receiving a terrible data plan from your phone provider.
Testing IT applications in the cloud is a prime example. As Transworld Data President Mary Shacklett notes in Information Week:
“The virtual operating systems used for application testing in the cloud are billed by the hour, minute, or second. This is advantageous for developers when testing because it costs less than deploying virtual operating systems in their own data centres, where hardware and software must be capitalised and used over several years. When the application developer completes testing but forgets to de-allocate the test OS that is now idle and is still being charged for, cloud testing turns into a big financial drain. The test OS thus turns into a wasteful asset.
